Quinoa is a flowering plant in the amaranth family. It is a herbaceous annual plant grown as a grain crop primarily for its edible seeds. Quinoa is not a grass, but rather a pseudocereal botanically related to spinach and amaranth. Grown in South America (Peru, Chile and Bolivia) for thousands of years, quinoa formed the staple diet of the Incas and their descendants.
This power-packed superfood has a lovely neutral flavour, with earthy undertones that makes the perfect canvas for just about any dish you want to create.
With twice the protein content or rice or barley, quinoa is a very good source of calcium, magnesium and manganese. It also contributes beneficial levels of several B vitamins, Vitamin E and dietary fibre.
