There’s no doubt that one of the most crucial elements required by our bodies, is Magnesium. It’s involved in hundreds of biochemical reactions, including the creation of energy, proteins, muscle movement, nerve regulation and the healthy maintenance of every single cell.
If you all too often feel fatigued, sleepy (but don’t sleep properly), weak, irritable, depressed, nauseous, have pins and needles, muscle spasms or abnormal heart rhythms, you may not have enough magnesium in your body. Long-term, a lack of magnesium can lead to migraines, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis.
Magnesium deficiency can often be caused by a poor diet, alcoholism, some prescription medications, long-term stress (including physical), type 2 diabetes, digestive issues, long-term vomiting or diarrhoea and kidney problems.
Research suggests that the recommended daily intake (RDI) of magnesium of 300-420mg is not being met by most people. It also suggests that this RDI is not enough, and that an additional 300mg per day could be advantageous for optimal health and longevity.
With magnesium having such an important role in the body, and with people’s busy, and often stressful, lives, it makes sense to ensure we boost our magnesium levels so we can start feeling better, calmer and better equipped to easily get through our days. But how do we do that?
Firstly, it’s important to take a good look at what’s on the plate in front of us! Shop for, and eat, healthy, magnesium-rich foods such as leafy greens, avocados, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains.
We know what you’re thinking!… unfortunately it’s not always possible to get enough of the good stuff to function optimally, so to ‘fill in the gap’ so to speak, you might want to consider taking a good magnesium supplement.
It’s important to note that there are different types of magnesium, and not all forms of magnesium are absorbed equally. To serve different parts of your body, you may need not only a supplement which you take internally, but magnesium creams/sprays and salts that can be absorbed through your skin.
Wonder Foods has created a wonderful (pardon the pun!) magnesium supplement called ‘Wonder Mag’.
Wonder Mag is a tropical fruit flavoured magnesium blend with synergistic nutrients designed to enhance the absorption and utilisation of magnesium in the body. Designed for everyday use and to support a sense of well being, one teaspoon of Wonder Mag supplies the body with 320mg of elemental magnesium. Wonder Mag is produced with no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or sweeteners, is GMO-free and Vegan-friendly.
And, to provide additional relief for those tired and aching muscles, we suggest soaking in a warm bath with Wonder Foods Epsom Salts and applying a magnesium spray.
*It’s always important to consult with your doctor if you are considering taking a magnesium supplement.
